On the central plateau of the Jura, the Région des Lacs contains around 100 stretches of water of various sizes, in settings ranging from the grandiose to the secluted.

Situated between Lons-le-Saunier and St-Claude at 429 m above sea level, Vouglans is the most imposing of these stretches of water and the 3rd largest lake in terms of volume in France. It covers 35 km from north to south and has an area of 1 600 ha.
It is divided up into 3 zones :

  • A fishing zone famous throughout Europe for its carps, pikes and zanders. (Zone A)
  • A motoboating zone equipped with a ski slalom. (Zone B)
  • A sailing zone that generally enjoys good winds. (Zone C)

  • Three beaches with swimming and services.

    Numerous inlets with unprotected anchorages.

Navigation is regulated by prefectoral decrees. Speed is limited to 10 km/h - in zone A over the entire zone - in zone B closer than 50 m to shore, around the mooring sites, near bathing zones - in zone C throughout the entire zone.
