The reservoir of Vouglans

Nestling in the heart of the Jura, Lake Vouglans is a well-preserved site in what appears to be a completely natural environment. Yet, the reservoir of Vouglans was created artificially in 1968 and is today the third largest body of water in France covering 1,600 hectares. A hydroelectric dam has turned the valley into a large-scale biological reservoir while protecting the lake's environment and its wild shoreline mainly composed of forests and cliffs.

The number of tourist areas has been limited to ensure priority for nature and its inhabitants. The local flora and fauna are preserved allowing visitors to discover zander, pike, perch, carp, peregrine falcons, toads, butterflies, lynx, and more.
